Lighting
Seems so straightforward, right? Silly decorator! Haven't you learned that nothing is easy by now?
There are all kids of light fixtures in Everquest 2. Candles, chandeliers, sconces, floor lamps - they've thought of just about everything. Except that we might like the lights to actually give off... LIGHT! Lights come in two kinds - light-producing and (you guessed it) non light-producing. Luckily, most lights are plainly labled.
| The 'warm light shines brightly' gives off great light for you to light up your house with. The 'gentle glow' could be replaced with a burnt-out bulb and you might never know the difference. Additionally, some lights don't tell you if they give off light or not. |
|
To help with this, all the lights in the Lighting section are highlighted in red text if they give off light. "What's the big deal?" you might ask. Does it really matter if you can see light coming from my lamp or not? YES! Player houses are dark. Especially at night. And unless you want everyone who visits to have to equip a torch, proper lighting is a must. So why not just use only the lights that give off light? Because the other ones are quite pretty also, and may fit in your home better. However, that doesn't solve the problem that you've placed 15 lights and still can't see your feet. So - we're going to take that swaying yellow paper lantern above and light it up (because no, that one doesn't give off its own light). First, place said lantern where you would like it. I'm using a bare patch of celing for demonstration. |

| Now, take something that does give off light. I like to use the single candle, it can be shrunk pretty small and will fit inside most other objects. Notice there's now a patch of light on the ground where my candle is. | ![]() |
| And that patch of light moves up the wall as I raise my candle (holding <Ctrl> while scrolling the mousewheel up). | ![]() |
| When your candle is high enough that it's completely hidden inside your lantern, place it down. You will then need to walk around and check to make sure that it's completely hidden from all sides. | ![]() |
Congratulations! You've just lit up your non light-giving light! With some practice this can work for table lamps, floor lamps, sconces, most anything.
It should also be noted that you can hide candles and other lights inside bookcases, aquariums, cabinets, etc to give them a 'backlit' appearnace.
